Asamoah Gyan accuses Victor Osimhen of ‘faking injury’ in World Cup qualifier

Asamoah Gyan has openly questioned the legitimacy of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen’s recent injury, suggesting it was a calculated move to benefit his new club, Galatasaray.

Gyan’s accusation came after Osimhen was forced to leave the pitch during the first half of Nigeria’s crucial 1-0 victory against Rwanda last Saturday.

The injury, initially diagnosed by the Super Eagles’ medical staff as a shin bruise, was considered serious enough to rule him out of the subsequent World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

However, Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer remains unconvinced by the diagnosis. In a recent interview, Gyan was quoted by Habersarikirmizi, stating that it’s a trick.

“I know these tricks. Someone said to Osimhen, ‘Look, we spent a lot of money on you. The Champions League is coming up. We don’t like you going to Africa, but go there and play a bit, then get injured and lie on the ground and act like it’s serious. The next day you’ll be in Türkiye.'”

The 26-year-old forward, who recently completed a record-breaking transfer to the Turkish giants, immediately returned to Turkey for further medical assessment.

Galatasaray’s official statement later confirmed that Osimhen had sustained a moderate sprain to his ankle ligaments and that treatment had already begun to get him back on the field as soon as possible.

As a result, the striker was absent from Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana on Tuesday.
