Jude Bellingham scored both England goals as the Three Lions battled past Norway 2-1 in extra time to reach the World Cup semi-finals. The quarter-final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens went the distance in brutal heat, with kickoff temperatures around 90°F and a heat index topping 108 degrees.
Norway struck first through Andreas Schjelderup, who lobbed Jordan Pickford from the left side of the box. Bellingham answered just before halftime, cutting in from the right and firing a left-footed shot past the Norway goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
Norway thought they had retaken the lead in the second half through Torbjørn Heggem, but VAR ruled out the goal after Erling Haaland was found to have pushed an England player down in the buildup. The match stayed level through 90 minutes, forcing 30 more minutes in the heat.
Bellingham needed only three minutes of extra time to win it. Norway’s goalkeeper saved a long-range effort, but the rebound fell to Bellingham, who pounced to make it 2-1 and register his sixth goal of the tournament.
The result ends Norway’s best-ever World Cup run and sends England through to face the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland in the semi-final on July 15 in Atlanta. It marked the first-ever World Cup meeting between England and Norway.
Bellingham has now been directly involved in England’s breakthrough moments at every stage of the knockout rounds, including his match-winning contribution against Mexico in the round of 32.
