Daniel Daga Cleared of Sexual Assault Charges, Set to Return for Molde FK

Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has been acquitted of sexual assault charges by the Frostating Court of Appeal in Norway, clearing the way for his return to action with Norwegian club Molde FK.

The 19-year-old, who previously featured for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, had been sentenced to six months in prison by a lower court in March over an alleged sexual assault involving an unnamed woman. The incident was reported to have occurred in April 2025, with formal charges filed in December of the same year.

Following that conviction, Molde FK suspended Daga from selection indefinitely while the legal process continued.

On Thursday, the club confirmed that the Court of Appeal had unanimously overturned the conviction, although it noted that the verdict is not yet legally final.

“Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, even though the verdict is not yet final,” the club said in an official statement.

The Norwegian side added that Daga will now be available for selection again.

“The club recognises that this has been a serious and stressful matter for everyone affected. Since the indictment was filed, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibility as an employer.”

Daga joined Molde FK at the start of the 2025 season and has made 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. The former Flying Eagles midfielder is now expected to resume his career following the appeal court’s decision, pending any further legal developments.
