Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has launched a scathing criticism of some Nigerian state governors, accusing them of lacking development plans and prioritising the alleged embezzlement of public funds.
Emenike expressed his frustration in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, October 14, describing the country as an “embezzlement ground” and questioning the priorities of political leaders and the security personnel assigned to protect them.
“The arrogancy and confidence in some of these Governor’s makes me sick and a lot of them doesn’t have good plans for the future of their state zero plans 💩 just embezzle money and una police and army go still they follow them with empty stomach jokers,” Emenike wrote.
The former striker, who represented Nigeria at international level between 2011 and 2015, expressed further disappointment with the country’s situation, recalling his time wearing the national team’s jersey.
“Nigeria is finished and gone. We thought it was a country when we played for Nigeria not knowing that it is an embezzlement ground” he added.
The former international did not name any governor or provide specific evidence against individual office holders in the post. His remarks, however, raise questions about public accountability, state development and the welfare of security personnel amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
