FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets of Nigeria battle Japan in Round of 16

The Falconets of Nigeria take on the Nadeshiko of Japan in a round of 16 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup game.

The Falconets, Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national team, just finished their group stage play at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

They now strive to follow in the footsteps of their forebears who advanced to the competition’s finals in 2010 and 2014.

Falconets at U-20 Women’s World Cup

In their group opener in Bogota, Flourish Sabastine’s incredible late goal helped the Nigerian Falconets upset the Korea Republic 1-0.

In their final group game, Nigeria's Falconets defeated Venezuela 4-0 to qualify for the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

In their second group match, the Falconets then lost 1-3 to their German opponents.

Then, in their last group game, the Falconets defeated their Venezuelan opponents 4-0.

Japan at U-20 Women’s World Cup

Nigeria Falconets and Japan will play in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup round of 16 being held in Colombia.

In their last group game, the Japanese squad defeated Austria 2-0 to set up a clash with the Falconets.

Maya Hijjikata’s brace helped the Asian giants defeat the Europeans and will be the key player for the Falconets to keep in check.

The Falconets of Nigeria take on the Nadeshiko of Japan in a round of 16 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup game.

Before this, the Asians handily overcame Ghana 4-1 in their group encounter then annihilated New Zealand 7-0.

They finished with nine points, thirteen goals scored, and only one goal conceded.

At the 10,000-seat Estadio Metropolitano de Tech in Bogota, the Nigerian Falconets play the Japanese scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024.
