Super Eagles captain Williams Troost-Ekong has assured Nigerians that Ademola Lookman is ready to face Rwanda and South in the World Cup qualifiers.
Having not featured in any match this season due to his failed transfer move to Inter Milan, Lookman’s readiness for the qualifiers divided opinions.
Ademola Lookman handed a transfer request this summer to leave Atlanta for Inter Milan but the deal didn’t materialize and has left the 27-year-old ostracized from the team.
However, speaking to the media ahead of the qualifier against Rwanda, Troost-Ekong insists the reigning African Footballer of the year is motivated and focused ahaed of the crucial matches.
The summer transfer window is always particular when you have a team full of talented players like we always do in Nigeria,” Ekong said.
“There’s no wonder there is going to be movement. Players making the step up. Also making a small reference to Ademola Lookman, I think all of us have really followed and supported him. The coach said he’s the best player in Africa.
“With what I have seen these days, he’s even more motivated. The Lookman that we know, he’s even consistently motivated, worked and trained hard.”
Ademola Lookman is yet to score in the qualification series but has an assist in five appearances.
Nigeria are currently fourth on the log with seven points from six matches and a win against Rwanda and South will revive their chances of qualifying for the World Cup next summer.
