Following Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, pundit Jamie Carragher urged manager Arne Slot to drop midfielder Florian Wirtz from the starting eleven.
The loss came via a first-half penalty goal scored by Victor Osimhen. Wirtz featured in the lineup, but Carragher believes the team’s current struggles are linked to the German’s presence.

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer but has struggled immensely in the early phase of his Anfield career, failing to register a single goal or assist in eight appearances across all competitions.
Carragher was blunt in his assessment, insisting the balance of the team is wrong.
“Right now, I don’t think the balance of the team is right, and the obvious one that stands out is Florian Wirtz – he’s just not at the races at all,” Carragher told CBS Sports.
He concluded that Slot needs to act decisively for the team’s benefit.
“He’s a young boy coming into a new league, and he has plenty of time to go as a Liverpool player, but right now I think he needs to come out of the team. The manager needs to fix it.”
