It was another weekend of impressive performances from a couple of Nigerian players in Europe heading into the international break.
Paul Onuachu continues to show that his “marriage” with Trabzonspor is a union made in heaven.
Akor Adams found the back of the net in consecutive games as Sevilla put Barcelona to the sword on Sunday afternoon.
Kelechi Iheanacho continues to impress at Celtic as he bagged his second league goal in the comeback win over Motherwell.
AS Roma forward Rinsola Babajide scored in the season-opener win over Parma.
This post examines how Nigerian players performed for their various European clubs as the major leagues take a break for the next two weeks.
1. Rinsola Babajide
The Super Falcons forward had a good outing as AS Roma kickex of their Serie A campaign with a commanding win over Parma. Babajide scored on her Serie A debut as the host thrashed Parma 4-0. Her gaol takes her tally for AS Roma to two goals and assists since her arrival in the summer from Costa Adeje Tennerife.
2. Paul Onauchu
The Super Eagles striker is unarguably the best in Europe at the moment. Onuachu is not just scoring but also providing assists for his teammates. Paul Onuachu scored and registered an assist in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win over Kayserispor. Onuachu converted from the penalty spot as he raised his tally to six, retaining his spot as the leading scorer in the Turkish Super League this season.
3. Akor Adams
A few days after getting an invitation to the Super Eagles, Akor Adams celebrated his call-up with a goal against Barcelona on Sunday afternoon. The former Montpellier striker came off the bench to score the last goal of the match as Sevilla thrashed Barcelona 4-1 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Akor Adams scored from a brilliant pass from his countryman Chidera Ejuke as he registered his second league goal.
4. Kelechi Iheanacho
Iheanacho scored his second goal in the league as Celtic completed a comeback win at home over Celtic. The former Leicester City and Sevilla forward put the host ahead from the penalty spot and was on the pitch for 78 minutes as Daizen Meada scored the winner in added time to seal a 3-2 win.
