Nigeria is celebrating a remarkable achievement on the global stage as Folashade Rafiatu Lawal secured three silver medals at the World Weightlifting Championships in Norway, competing in the women’s 58kg category.
Lawal delivered an outstanding all-round performance, finishing second in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and the combined Total to claim a clean sweep of silver medals in a single event.
Her medal-winning lifts were:
Snatch – 101kg 🥈
Clean and Jerk – 128kg 🥈
Total – 229kg 🥈

With a combined total of 229kg, Lawal not only placed Nigeria on the championship medal table but also reaffirmed her position as one of the country’s most consistent athletes on the international scene.
This achievement adds to an already decorated career that began with gold at the 2019 African Games in Rabat and continued with three gold medals in Accra last year. She also represented Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing fifth in her category.
