Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye made a strong return to action on Monday night, featuring for Udinese in their 1–1 Serie A draw against Cremonese tonight after serving a two-month suspension.

The Nigerian shot-stopper was back between the sticks at the Dacia Arena, marking his first appearance since completing a ban imposed by Italian football authorities for breaching betting regulations earlier this season.

Okoye looked composed and assured throughout the game, producing several key saves to keep Udinese in contention. Despite conceding a late equaliser, his performance drew praise from supporters and coach Kosta Runjaic, who described the goalkeeper’s return as “a major boost” for the team.

“Maduka showed his quality tonight,” Runjaic said post-match. “He’s an important player for us — calm, focused, and reliable. Having him back gives everyone confidence.”

His comeback is also seen as a welcome development for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who are preparing for next month’s World Cup playoff matches. Okoye’s return to club action restores competition for the national team’s number one spot, currently held by Stanley Nwabali.

The 24-year-old has been one of Udinese’s standout performers since joining from Watford in 2023, and his solid display against Cremonese suggests he is ready to reclaim his place as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

With Okoye back in top-flight action, both Udinese and Nigeria will be hopeful that his form continues as crucial fixtures approach.
