PL: Fernandes rescues United, Bournemouth stun Spurs as Chelsea go top

The Premier League served up another day of drama across England, with late goals, VAR controversies, shock upsets, and title-race twists defining Saturday’s action.

From Bruno Fernandes’ stoppage-time penalty rescuing Manchester United to Bournemouth stunning Spurs and Chelsea moving top, fans were treated to a thrilling round of fixtures.

Manchester United finally claimed their first league win of the season in the most dramatic fashion, edging Burnley 3–2 at Old Trafford. An own goal had put them ahead early, but Burnley fought back before Bruno Fernandes held his nerve to bury a 95th-minute VAR-awarded penalty, sparking wild celebrations.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were brought back down to earth in North London, falling 1–0 to Bournemouth. Evanilson’s fifth-minute strike was enough to hand the Cherries a famous away win, leaving Spurs frustrated after a flat display.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s 2–0 victory over Fulham was overshadowed by VAR controversy. A Fulham opener was controversially disallowed, and Chelsea capitalised with João Pedro’s strike before Enzo Fernández doubled the lead from the spot.

Wolves and Everton produced a five-goal thriller at Molineux, where Jack Grealish shone for the visitors. Involved in all three Everton goals, he inspired a 3–2 victory despite Wolves rallying late through Hwang Hee-Chan and Rodrigo Gomes.

Leeds United and Newcastle United played out a drab goalless draw at Elland Road. With Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon missing, Newcastle lacked a cutting edge, while Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin came closest in an otherwise cagey encounter.

The day’s final drama came at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland stunned Brentford with a late turnaround. Le Fée levelled from the spot in the 81st minute before Wilson Isidor sent the home crowd into raptures with a 96th-minute winner.
