Paris Saint-Germain stretched their perfect start to the Champions League with a 4-2 win over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes. Desire Doue gave PSG the lead on 38 minutes, but 19-year-old Xavi Espart equalised on 55 minutes in his first full Champions League appearance. Lucas Hernandez headed PSG back in front from a corner on 72, and Lamine Yamal answered with a solo goal on 79 to level again.
PSG settled it in a devastating late spell. Vitinha struck from the edge of the box on 81 minutes, and Fabian Ruiz tapped in Achraf Hakimi’s cross on 86 to leave Barcelona stunned. The result lifts PSG to nine points from three games and leaves Barcelona on six. It also carried a personal edge for Luis Enrique, who faced the club he coached before taking charge in Paris.
Manchester City bounced back from last week’s defeat in Paris with a 5-1 rout of AEK Athens at the Etihad. Elliot Anderson scored his first goal for the club on 12 minutes, and Phil Foden doubled the lead on 34. Stavros Pilios pulled one back for AEK on 52, but Rayan Cherki restored the two-goal cushion five minutes later. Foden then completed his hat-trick with goals on 65 and 76 minutes, and City managed it all with Erling Haaland rested on the bench.
Liverpool survived a scare in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield, beating Villarreal 4-3. Georges Mikautadze scored after four minutes, and Sergi Cardona made it 2-0 to the visitors on 29. Alexis Mac Allister pulled one back on 36, and Ronald Araujo headed the equaliser in first-half stoppage time from an assist by Rio Ngumoha.
The 18-year-old Ngumoha then provided the pass for Mac Allister’s second goal on 65 minutes, a moment that made him Liverpool’s youngest player to assist in European competition. Florian Wirtz added a fourth three minutes later from Cody Gakpo’s pass. Tani Oluwaseyi scored for Villarreal on 87 to make the finish nervy, but Liverpool held on to keep their 100 per cent record and move to nine points.
Napoli also won a wild one, beating Bodo/Glimt 4-3 in Naples for their first Champions League points of the season. Matteo Politano scored after just 54 seconds, and Jens Petter Hauge equalised for the Norwegians on 27 minutes. Scott McTominay put Napoli back in front on 41, and Andreas Helmersen levelled again on 62.
McTominay struck his second on 75 minutes to restore the lead, and Ole Bjortuft turned the ball into his own net on 88 to make it 4-2. Sondre Fet pulled one back for Bodo/Glimt in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but Napoli held on for the win.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Roma thrashed Slovan Bratislava 4-0, and Porto lost 1-0 at home to PSV Eindhoven. Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 away at Sabah, and Stuttgart drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid. Fenerbahce and Slavia Prague also drew, 2-2. The action continues on Wednesday, when Bayern Munich host Arsenal and Real Madrid welcome RB Leipzig.
