Rangers International FC of Enugu have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters of Algerian side MC Alger during and after their CAF Champions League second preliminary round first-leg clash.
The Nigerian champions defeated MC Alger 2-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Sunday, 18 October 2026, but the fixture was marred by reports of disorder. In an official club statement released on Monday, Rangers confirmed they had raised concerns with CAF over the reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalisation of stadium seats, and other acts of disorder by some visiting supporters.
The club is seeking urgent intervention from the continental body, including the consideration of appropriate precautionary measures ahead of the return fixture scheduled for Friday, 23 October 2026, in Algiers.
“Rangers International FC remains committed to fair play, respect for football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and all stakeholders,” the statement read. “We have confidence in the established processes of CAF and await its response.”
Rangers also thanked their supporters for their continued loyalty and urged everyone to remain calm, disciplined and focused as the team prepares for the second leg.
The Flying Antelopes will travel to Algeria this week looking to protect their two-goal advantage and secure a place in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition
