Reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars ended a four-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Monday evening.
The Sky Blue Stars have on a terrible run losing their last five matches in all competitions with the latest being a 2-1 loss to League leaders Nasarawa United.
However, the defending champions put an end to the steak as they came from a goal down to snatch the win over El Kanemi Warriors.
Emmanuel Jonas gave the visitors the lead two minutes before the hour mark to put the host under pressure.
El Kanemi held on to their lead until the 84th minute when they conceded a penalty. Victor Mbaoma won and converted the spot kick to bring the home side level.
Michael Ibe, in the fourth minute of added time grabbed the winner as the goalkeeper punched the ball to his direction from a long through into the box.
The midfielder drilled a low drive into the back of the net to send the home fans at the MKO Abiola Arena in Abeokuta into a wild frenzy.
Remo Stars, in the absence of Daniel Ogunmodede – the head coach, picked maximum points to step out of the drop zone with 13 points from 10 matches with two outstandings.
In the other result of the day, Plateau United extended Bendel Insurance’s winless run to eight matches.
The former Champions picked up a win over the vistsors courtesy of Gafar Saka’s second half goal.
Meanwhile, Rivers United won away from home for the first time this season.
The Pride of Rivers grabbed maximum points after 1-0 win over newcomers Kun Khalifa.
Maclyn Biokopo Jenewari scored the only goal of the game in the 78th minute as Rivers United moved to the fourth spot on the log with 20 points.
