South African visa delay disrupts Remo Stars’ travel ahead of Sundowns tie

NPFL side, Remo Stars have found themselves in a logistical and administrative bind just days before their return leg fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.

The Sky Blue Stars submitted 43 visa applications to the South African diplomatic mission for their delegation, with the applications lodged on October 10, 2025 in accordance with continental travel protocols.

As of Wednesday, only 26 passports had been returned with visa stamps, and critically, only 12 of those approvals were for players.

Originally scheduled to travel at around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday for their trip to South Africa, Remo Stars have been forced to cancel both the flight booking and hotel accommodation due to the incomplete visa clearances.

Club officials expressed frustration at what they describe as an unnecessary hindrance to their preparations, especially given the early submission of the visa documents.

The delay has raised concerns over how the team will manage its training, recovery and overall readiness for one of the most important fixtures in the club’s history.

This disruption adds to the pressures already on the club following a heavy defeat to Sundowns in the first leg, and now they face the added challenge of reassembling their full squad on short notice.
