Inter Miami midfielder and Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets will retire from professional football at the end of the Major League Soccer season in December.
The 38-year-old’s final matches will be played during the MLS playoffs, which his team recently qualified for.
Busquets is ending a phenomenal career that saw him win 32 major honors during 18 years at Barcelona, including nine La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.

He also anchored Spain’s midfield during their golden era, winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship across his 143 appearances.
After joining Inter Miami in 2023 and reuniting with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, he shared his feelings about the decision.
“I feel like the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional footballer. It’s been almost 20 years of enjoying this incredible story I always dreamed of,” Busquets said in a video. “I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful.”
He debuted under Pep Guardiola in 2008 and finished his time at Barcelona with 722 matches, the third-most appearances in the club’s history.
