Nigeria’s campaign at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) ended in disaster on Tuesday after suffering a crushing 4–0 defeat to Sudan at the Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar.
The home-based Super Eagles, needing a win to keep faint qualification hopes alive, instead delivered a flat, error-ridden display that handed Sudan their biggest win in CHAN history.
Sudan went ahead in the 25th minute when Leonard Ngenge inadvertently diverted Abdel Yagoub’s effort into his own net. The Nigerians’ woes deepened in first-half stoppage time as Walieldin Khidir doubled the lead from the penalty spot.

After the break, Sudan turned the screw. Abdelrazig Omer struck twice in quick succession, first from close range in the 55th minute, then with a superb volley off the crossbar six minutes later, to complete a humiliation that equals Nigeria’s heaviest ever CHAN defeat, matching the 4–0 loss to Morocco in the 2018 final.
The result leaves Nigeria bottom of Group D with zero points from two games, already eliminated before their final group fixture against Congo.
