Chelsea have recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace as Enzo Maresca looks to navigate the defensive injury crisis.
With hamstring injuries sidelining Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, and Axel Disasi reportedly on his way out, Maresca needed to act quickly to shore up his defensive options.
Chalobah’s return to Chelsea is quite the turnaround, considering he was previously deemed surplus to requirements as the Blues looked to solidify the partnership between Fofana and Levi Colwill.
However, injuries have forced them to scamper for solutions.
During his four-and-a-half-month loan spell at Crystal Palace, Chalobah proved himself to be a reliable starter, making 14 appearances for the Eagles.
His experience with Oliver Glasner’s side will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for Chelsea in the second half of the season.
The Blues, who drew 2-2 against Bournemouth on Tuesday, have now failed to win any of their last 5 league games.
Maresca will be keen to get things back on track.
