West Bromwich Albion have rewarded promising Nigerian goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo with a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Championship club until the summer of 2028.

The highly-rated shot-stopper earned the new deal after an impressive first season at the club, having joined the Baggies in September 2025.

Brian, the younger brother of Arthur Okonkwo, established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for West Brom’s Premier League 2 side, making 17 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign.

The Nigerian youngster also played a key role in the club’s run to the latter stages of the Premier League 2 Cup, with his consistent performances convincing the Championship side to extend his contract.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Academy Manager Richard Stevens praised Okonkwo’s rapid development and expressed confidence in his future.

“Brian came into our programme late last season, but he used that time to do a lot of work with Head of Academy Goalkeeping, Phil Smart, and in the first team with Boaz Myhill as well,” Stevens said.

“He’s an important part of our programme and if you look at most goalkeepers, historically, they need more development time, loan moves, opportunities and patience as well.

“Brian made a big impact at the football club and I believe he will benefit from the programme over the coming season.”

With his future now secured until 2028, Okonkwo will be hoping to continue his development and push for opportunities with West Brom’s senior team during the 2026/27 Championship season.
