Victor Osimhen scored his first Champions League goal of the season on Wednesday night, and he scored it against his former club. His 61st-minute strike sealed a 4-2 comeback win for Galatasaray at Lille’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy and gave the Turkish champions their first points of the campaign after two straight defeats.
Yunus Akgün put Galatasaray ahead in the second minute, but Soriba Diaoune equalised for Lille in the seventh and struck again in the 39th to put the hosts in front. Aleksey Batrakov levelled before the break. Seven minutes after the restart, Nabil Bentaleb turned the ball into his own net to hand Galatasaray a 3-2 lead. Barış Alper Yılmaz then launched a counterattack and set up Osimhen, who finished from the centre of the box.
Osimhen did not celebrate. He raised his hands in apology to the Lille supporters instead, then praised them after the final whistle. “I love this stadium a lot,” he said. He also admitted the hosts made life hard for his team. “Lille players are very tough,” Osimhen said. The goal was his seventh of the season in all competitions and his 14th in Europe for Galatasaray, a record for a foreign player at the club.
The night’s marquee fixture, Bayern Munich against Arsenal, ended 2-2 at the Allianz Arena. Eberechi Eze, who replaced the injured Bukayo Saka, put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute, and Alphonso Davies levelled for Bayern 10 minutes later. Harry Kane then converted a 61st-minute penalty to restore Bayern’s lead, and he has now scored in 10 consecutive Champions League games.
Declan Rice rescued the point for Arsenal with an 82nd-minute equaliser. The draw lifts Arsenal to seventh with seven points, while Bayern sit 14th with five. Bayern also suffered a fitness scare when Luis Díaz limped off.
Real Madrid made it three wins from three with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Bernabéu. Bernardo Silva scored his first goal for Madrid in the 43rd minute, and Arda Güler doubled the lead seven minutes after the restart. Kylian Mbappé curled in the third in the 83rd minute for his 12th goal of the season. Tidiam Gomis pulled one back, but Yan Diomande, facing his former club, restored the three-goal margin with a thunderous volley from a Brahim Díaz cross.
Como delivered the biggest shock of the night, beating Manchester United 4-1 in the club’s first European campaign. Nico Paz scored twice and set up another goal, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón completed the rout. Michael Carrick apologised to the travelling supporters, and his side are now winless in seven games across all competitions. “It was more than disappointing,” Carrick told TNT Sports, while captain Bruno Fernandes pointed the finger at the coaching staff.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa beat Viking 3-1 at Villa Park, Club Brugge thrashed Lens 3-0, and Inter Milan edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0. Real Betis also won 1-0 against Feyenoord.
