A Ugandan striker with Nigerian roots, Uche Ikpeazu scored the decisive goal that gave Uganda a point against Tanzania in a Group C clash at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Uche Ikpeazu came off the bench in the second half and scored a bullet header from Denis Omedi’s cross with 10 minutes to the end of regulation time.
Ikpeazu scored on his tournament on his tournament debut to give the Cranes a chance of fighting for a place in the next round of the competition heading into the final group match against Nigeria.
Uganda missed the chance to seal maximum points after Ikpeazu’s equalizer as Allan Okello missed a penalty in added time.
The result leaves Uganda bottom of the group having lost their opening match 3-0 against Tunisia.
Belgian coach, Paul Put will hope Ikpeazu rises to the occasion against the his native land on Tuesday when the Cranes take on the Super Eagles.
Uche Ikpeazu is a British-born striker with Nigerian roots (father is Igbo while mother is Ugandan) but honoured the invitation of Uganda and was called-up to the national team by former coach Jonathan Mckinstry for two 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
