AFCON 2025
Ademola Lookman has been announced as the winner of the CAF Player of the Year 2024, beating Achraf Hakimi and Simon Adingra to the top prize.
The award rewards Lookman for his stellar year after his hat-trick in the final won the Europa League for Atalanta and his massive part in guiding Nigeria to the final of the AFCON 2024. He also finished 14th place in the Ballon d’Or 2024 rankings.
In a show of culture, Lookman, dressed in a flamboyant green agbada, thanked his fellow Nigerians in his native tongue, Yoruba.
In his opening speech while receiving the award, Lookman said “Nigeria! Mo ki gbogbo yin. E se. Modupe!” which literally translates to “Nigeria! I greet you all. Thank you. I’m grateful!”
The Atalanta forward has shown no signs of stopping, continuing his impressive form with Atalanta this season.
