Liverpool manager Arne Slot has proudly confirmed rumors that the club’s owners made a significant gesture of compassion to the family of Diogo Jota following the forward’s tragic passing.
The Dutch coach revealed that the club paid the Portuguese player’s full salary for the remaining duration of his contract to his wife and children, stressing that such an act is rare in the world of football.

Jota and his younger brother, André, were killed in a car crash in Spain on July 3. The tragedy struck just 11 days after Jota married Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.
While no monetary gesture can replace the loss, Slot made a point of highlighting the generosity of Liverpool’s ownership.
“Owners are mainly criticised, like managers, but the way they’ve handled this situation, by paying his wife and his children all the money from the contract [is commendable],” Slot told TNT Sports.
“Maybe people think it’s normal, but it is not in football.”
