Walid Regragui reponds to home advantage “foours” ahead of Super Eagles clash
Head coach of the Moroccan national team has reacted to the widespread allegations that Morocco, being host of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have enjoyed favors from referees in the tournament.
The Atlas Lions have been involved in some controversial moments in at least two of their matches en route to the semi-finals.
Morocco’s Adam Masina’s foul on Bryan Mbuemo in the box in the quarter-final clash appears to the most controversial as VAR didn’t call the attention of Mauritania referee, Dahane Beida to review the incident.
Recall that, Morocco had earlier protested the appointment of an Egyptian referee and an Algerian VAR before the match against Cameroon which led to the change of officials.
While reacting to the allegation, Walid Regragui said the only advantage they have is their fans. He also added that the allegation is as a result of Morocco being the team to beat.
“We’re the team to beat. As the team to beat, people will try to find all sorts of reasons to say Morocco has an advantage. The only advantage that Morocco has at this Africa Cup is playing in front of 65,000 spectators. The rest is on the field, we speak on the field.”
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to announce officials for the heavyweight clash on Wednesday night as of the time of publication.
Nigeria will take on Morocco in a high stake semi-final clash at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday for a place in Sunday’s final.
